Content Enrichment and Linking

Overview

One of AquaBrowser Library’s greatest strengths is its flexibility in mixing and matching different sources to offer the best out of the content available at your institution. Using AquaBrowser, you help your users to discover more of your library offerings by incorporating information not normally available in the typical catalog.

Tables of contents, reviews and virtually any other data available are merged and displayed as an integral part of the book (or item) that they describe. Items can be found by both the information typically found in the catalog and the information about them available elsewhere.

With AquaBrowser Library you can also display and link your library items to other resources available online. Cover art, links to Amazon or a local book store can all be easily placed right where you would expect them — next to the item they describe.

Indexed enriched content

AquaBrowser Library is a great state of the art discovery platform, incorporating all of the content available to your users in a single environment. Sometimes those different source actually describe the same item in multiple ways. AquaBrowser can incorporate those different descriptions into a single comprehensive entry on the item.

A book, recommended by QBPL

Consider, for example, Queens Borough Public Library’s recommended books list. In Queens, the librarians maintain a list of books that they recommend to their patrons. Formerly, people needed to go to a special page to see these recommendations, which were separated from the catalog that library patrons browse looking for books to read. With AquaBrowser, Queens Borough PL were able to integrate their recommendations directly into the catalog records, allowing users to easily identify those books and read the short review.

The recommended items are also given a special refine filter and a slight boost in the relevance ranked results in order to promote them even further.

Queen’s home grown recommended books list is an great example of how you could use AquaBrowser to make more of the content you have as a library. However nothing demonstrates the full aggregation power of AquaBrowser’s indexing engines than Syndetics ICE, a product built upon and for AquaBrowser technology.

Syndetics ICE

Syndetics ICE (Indexed Content Enrichment) expands your AquaBrowser Library’s searching beyond the traditional MARC record by indexing Syndetics value-added content such as Tables of Contents, Summaries and Fiction Profiles (detailed descriptors for genre, topic, setting, timeframe, character names and character traits on works of Fiction).   The Syndetics ICE content increases the relevancy of your search results and helps your patrons discover more items within your collection that were previously unfound when searching traditional MARC data.    Also available is Syndetics Title Link which allows you to group multiple records for the same title on your search results.
